Terms of Use
Last updated: 2026-06-03
By using car-scout.com.au you agree to these Terms of Use. If you don't agree, don't use the site. Car Scout is operated by DLK Studio Technology Pty Ltd (“we”, “us”, “DLK Studio”) and is an experimental research prototype, not a regulated financial or automotive advisory service.
1. What Car Scout is (and isn't)
Car Scout is a research tool that aggregates publicly available Australian used-car listings from sources including CarsGuide and Drive, and uses AI to help you analyse them. We are not:
- A licensed motor vehicle dealer or broker
- A financial advisor or credit provider
- A vehicle inspector or mechanic
- Affiliated with CarsGuide, Drive, Carsales, or any vehicle manufacturer
- The authoritative source for write-off, finance owing, or recall status — that's PPSR
Use Car Scout as a starting point. Always verify with a $2 PPSR check and an independent inspection before buying any car.
2. Acceptable use
You may use Car Scout to:
- Research used cars for your own purchase or sale
- Run AI questions through the Ask AI feature within your free or paid quota
- Set up watchlists and email alerts for personal use
- Buy passes and reports through Stripe
- Share article links from carscout.au on social media
3. Prohibited uses
You must not:
- Scrape, crawl, or systematically extract listing data, AI responses, or any other content from Car Scout, whether automated or manual
- Reverse engineer the AI prompts, our scoring formulas, our outlier detection logic, or any other intellectual property
- Republish our content — articles, AI responses, sold-price data, dealer aggregates — on another site as your own
- Resell AI pass tokens, share them across multiple users to circumvent the per-pass quota, or attempt to extend pass quotas through technical means
- Circumvent rate limits, Turnstile bot protection, or any other security or quota mechanism
- Build a competing product that ingests Car Scout's data as its primary source
- Use Car Scout to harass, defame, or discriminate against any dealer, seller, or buyer
- Probe for vulnerabilities outside of a responsible disclosure framework — if you find a security issue, email us at dlkstudiotechnology@gmail.com and we'll respond promptly
4. Paid passes and reports
- Pass prices, question quotas, and expiry windows are listed on /pricing. We may change these for future purchases without notice; existing passes keep their original terms.
- Passes are non-refundable once any question has been asked or any pass-tier feature (e.g. email export) has been used. If a pass fails to deliver a working answer for technical reasons on our side, we'll refund or replace it on request.
- Reports are non-refundable once delivered. If the report content is materially wrong (not just “not what you hoped”), reply to your Stripe receipt and we'll regenerate or refund.
- Pass tokens are bearer instruments — whoever has the token can use it. Look after them. We'll help you restore a lost token via your purchase email (one-click flow at /pass/restore).
5. AI features — important disclaimer
The Ask AI feature uses large language models that occasionally produce inaccurate, outdated, or misleading information. Car Scout grounds answers in real listing data and live web searches where possible, but you must not treat AI outputs as professional advice. Don't rely on them for:
- Final purchase decisions without independent verification
- Insurance, finance, or tax planning
- Safety-critical assessments (write-off status, recall coverage, mechanical condition)
- Legal advice on any matter
6. Intellectual property
All content on Car Scout — source code, website design, written articles, AI prompts, scoring algorithms, outlier-detection logic, the compiled listing dataset, the question-cluster analytics, and the brand “Car Scout” — is owned by DLK Studio Technology Pty Ltd or licensed to us. Individual car listings remain the intellectual property of their original sources (dealers, CarsGuide, Drive).
You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from any of our content without prior written permission. Limited fair-dealing exceptions under the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth) apply (e.g. quoting a small extract for review or criticism with attribution).
7. Third-party content
Listings on Car Scout are aggregated from public sources (CarsGuide, Drive). We don't verify the accuracy of dealer-supplied listing information. The presence of a listing on Car Scout is not an endorsement of the seller or vehicle. We're not responsible for dealer conduct, listing accuracy, or any transaction you enter into with a third-party seller.
8. No warranties
Car Scout is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by Australian law, we exclude all implied warranties including merchantability, fitness for purpose, and accuracy. Nothing in these terms excludes consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded by contract.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, DLK Studio Technology Pty Ltd is not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from your use of Car Scout, including loss of profits, data, or business opportunity. Our total liability for any direct loss is limited to the greater of (a) the total amount you've paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) $100 AUD.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify DLK Studio Technology Pty Ltd against any third-party claim arising from your breach of these terms, your misuse of Car Scout, or your use of information obtained through Car Scout (including any vehicle purchase or sale).
11. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to Car Scout at any time without notice if you breach these terms or otherwise abuse the service. We will refund the unused portion of any active paid pass on request if termination wasn't caused by your misconduct.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia. Any dispute will be resolved in the Queensland courts. You agree to attempt to resolve any dispute by emailing us first before initiating legal action.
13. Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be flagged at the top of this page. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.

These terms are a starting draft suitable for an experimental research prototype operated as a sole-operator small business in Australia. They are not legal advice. Before scaling Car Scout into a commercial operation, have a commercial lawyer review and tailor these for your specific arrangements (dealer agreements, partnership terms, employee/contractor IP assignments, etc.).
